About Karam House

Karam House is an after school Innovative Education program targeting Syrian and Turkish youth in Reyhanli and Istanbul, Turkey. At the Karam Houses, hundreds of youth learn through access to technology and makerspaces, expert mentorship, and a sophisticated design-based curriculum developed by NuVuX that teaches youth how to build their ideas and their community.

Karam’s IE hands-on studio curriculum is grounded in fundamental design skills and explores an extensive range of topics and disciplines. Within this model, students take projects from idea to finished prototype through an iterative process of research, diagramming, prototyping, critical feedback, and input from experts.

About the Role
As a Senior Mentor specialized in Student Management, you will be dividing your time between studio development and teaching, and leading the student data management efforts at both Karam Houses in Istanbul and Reyhanli.

Along with the Outreach team and Program Manager, you will set the strategies and implement them for the following:


  • Handle the students’ data and lifecycle from the moment they enroll in the program, to the moment they graduate:
  • Develop tools and strategies with the data analyst to enter, update and analyze student data
  • Oversee the data entry and update process on the database
  • Design and write reports, charts and graphs to evaluate the students’ progress
  • Investigate new tools and software suitable for data management and visualization.

Student Lifecycle

  • Coordinate with advisors to input & update the student database
  • Oversee the advising process from the operational side, such as setting plans for advising sessions, collaborating with mentors for content, and implementing successful follow up
  • Follow up on the students’ statuses in the program, ensure they’re on track to complete their lifecycle, and assist advisors in their follow up process
  • Work closely with the Outreach Coordinator to define outreach targets and strategies.

Studio Registration

  • Develop and implement the studio registration strategy for every session
  • Work with the Outreach Coordinator on setting and implementing a clear communication strategy with new, enrolled, disenrolled, senior students and graduates.
  • Teach a maximum of two studio sections per session
  • Along with the Teaching team and Program Manager, you will be working closely with the mentors on the following:

    Studio Development

    • Develop & teach studios with the teaching team, including attending meetings, presenting studio pitches, creating the studio content, drafting Purchase Requests, and coordinating with the program leads.
    • Take studio attendance, write reports, grade students, and maintain documentation standards on the platform (finalizing studio & post privacies, making sure all students have their projects, and ensure attendance rates are correct, etc)
    • Collaborate with the Senior Mentor to design and teach Capstone studios for the senior students
    • Collaborate with the Outreach leads and Senior mentors to launch open innovation workshops for visitors or potential students
    • Support Guest/Visiting mentors in their studios


    • Hold advising sessions for students to discuss their Lifecycle at Karam, and academic aspirations
    • Organize and execute program events such as graduations, exhibitions, and other non-studio related activities.
    • Lead clubs for students to encourage them to pursue their interests outside of the studio environment

    About You
    The candidate should have the following:

    • An undergraduate or graduate degree in design, prototyping, electromechanics, visual design (2D/3D modeling, world building) or relevant experience
    • Experience in teaching in a studio environment, with project based learning
    • Experience in student data management.
    • Proficiency in Sheets, Tableau (or any data visualization/management tool)
    • Strong graphic, writing and communication skills.
    • Proficient in two of the following three languages: English, Arabic and Turkish
    • Turkish Citizenship or valid Residency permit in the city of application (Either Reyhanli or Istanbul)

    Location Istanbul or Reyhani.

    Hours Full-time, 40 hours per week. Saturday – Wednesday

    Reports to IE Program Manager, Innovation Fellow

    Pay Scale Based on the candidate’s level of experience, qualifications, and the organization’s salary scale in Turkish Lira.**
